Prior to her star-making role on the hit legal drama Ally McBeal, Lucy Liu appeared in almost a dozen films (including
Jerry Maguire and Gridlock’d) and just as many popular shows (Beverly Hills, 90210 and
Home Improvement). Although she was a latecomer on Ally McBeal, Lucy’s reputation as an expert scene-stealer quickly led to roles in high-profile films like
Charlie’s Angels and Chicago.
2005 was a quiet year for Lucy, whose only film role was a relatively small one alongside in the Tony Scott action flick
Domino. She also returned to her television roots with a multi-episode guest spot on the
Friends spinoff Joey, and even appeared (so to speak) on The Simpsons as an expectedly bizarre character known only as Madam Wu.
Unlike 2005, 2006 promises to be an exceedingly busy year for Lucy, who is currently slated to pop up in no less than five films. The most high-profile of them is the supernatural thriller
Rise, which also stars and casts Lucy as a reporter who suddenly finds herself a card-carrying member of the undead. You can also expect to catch Lucy in
Lucky Number Slevin, The Cleaner, Devil to Pay, and
3 Needles.
