As the first black woman to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated’s annual Swimsuit Edition, Tyra Banks has long since established herself as one of the top models of her generation. She broke into the world of acting with a couple of small movie roles, but it wasn’t until her appearances in Higher Learning and the television show that audiences began to take her seriously. Today, she’s an established TV personality, acting as host of America’s Next Top Model and her own talk show.
2005 was a particularly busy year for Tyra with the premiere of The Tyra Banks Show and her continued presence on America’s Next Top Model. Tyra was even at the center of a minor controversy, following an episode of her show in which she set out to prove her breasts were real (she allowed a doctor to fondle them on air in an effort to prove their authenticity). Finally, Tyra capped off her modeling career with a splashy display at a televised Victoria’s Secret show.
Now that Tyra has officially retired as a model, expect to see a whole lot more of her in other areas of the entertainment world. She’s gearing up for the next season of America’s Next Top Model, and is always hard at work looking for new and interesting stories to tell on The Tyra Banks Show.
