Shania’s life reads like a Hollywood movie. She rose from poverty in a dead-end northern town to become one of the world’s best-selling musicians, boasting album sales in excess of 84 million and a saddle-full of No. 1 hits like “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under,” “You’re Still the One” and “Man, I Feel Like a Woman.” Except she’s from Canada, which makes her accomplishments even more amazing. Her country/pop blend, megawatt smile and undeniable natural good looks have made her wildly famous and obscenely rich.
Forget the record-breaking record sales or launching of her own fragrance, the real highlight of this Canuck beauty’s year came in November when she made an appearance on NBC’s
The Apprentice. She was immortalized with a biopic on Canadian television and was awarded that country’s second-highest civilian honor when she was named an "Officer of the Order of Canada.” She also turned 40, plus had a museum opened and a street named after her in her hometown of Timmins, Ontario. What did you do? Shania has recently put the finishing touches on her next studio album, and has plans to bless us with another world tour to support it. Say what you will about her music, watching a sweaty Shania Twain dance around on stage in tight outfits is worth the price of admission alone. She will also spend a considerable amount of time building another home in New Zealand after buying a 106-square-mile sheep farm. I think there’s a joke in there somewhere.
