Young Kylie toiled for years in a variety of low-budget Aussie soap operas. Her big break came at a charity event, where she did a karaoke version of “The Locomotion” that was good enough to earn her a recording contract. Since then, she’s had a rollercoaster career that has seen her sell 25 million albums and have hits like “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and “I Believe in You” reach No. 1 on music charts in 45 different countries.
Kylie had a rough 2005. In May, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and was forced to cancel the remainder of her world tour to focus on surgery and recovery. She faced unprecedented media scrutiny after the announcement, prompting Down Under politicians to ward off the hounds. Apparently, Australian doctors aren’t the dingo-bitten hacks we feared they might be, as Kylie was proclaimed to be “cancer free” on Christmas Eve.
Kylie looks to continue her recovery with some much-needed rest in Paris and the south of France before re-embarking on her Showgirl: The Greatest Hits Tour in late 2006. The tiny blonde diva (she’s only 5’1”) has said the tour will become an international “thank you” to all her fans for their encouragement and support during her battle with cancer.
