This diminutive Latin beauty was Spain’s leading leading-lady before crossing over to America. She left behind a legacy of Goyas (Spain’s Academy Awards) and was cast in a few forgettable movies, including one with and a bunch of horses, and another with and a mandolin -- eek! But the cream always rises to the top, and soon enough Penelope Cruz was blowing onto the scene in Blow and stealing the show in the almost fantastic Vanilla Sky.
Cruz gambled in 2005, putting all her hard earned serious acting cred on the line and starring in the schmaltzy action flick Sahara with and his abs. The harmless film was savaged by critics, but earned enough of a cult following on DVD to make it a success. Her gamble paid off in another sense, as she hooked up with her hunky leading man in what some geneticists argue is the most promising partnership in years.
Ms. Cruz will be popping up into a lot more than your dreams in 2006. She has a number of high-profile projects coming to fruition, including the darling of Cannes, Chromophobia and the promising Bandidas, in which she and are finally united outside of our imaginary fantasies. They’ll play bank-robbing vixens forced to commit crimes to battle an evil tyrant. Hopefully the sequel will be set in a women’s prison!
