Amerie's sweet 'n' soulful singing voice has made her a major urban music star. Her single "Why Don't We Fall In Love" (from her 2002 debut album,
All I Have) helped establish her as an up-and-coming R&B sensation. Since then, Amerie's gone on to host
The Center on BET, and she made her big-screen debut in First Daughter alongside and Michael Keaton in 2004.
Amerie's sophomore album Touch was released in April 2005 and it proved an even bigger seller than her debut outing. It reached the fifth slot on Billboard's Top 200 Album chart, and the third position on their Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums listing, going platinum in the process. The single "1 Thing" was featured in the movie
Hitch, and was all over the radio last year, peaking at No. 8 on the U.S pop charts and No. 4 in the UK. Amerie won the Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for "Entertainer Of The Year," while "1 Thing" earned her the Vibe Music Award for Club Banger of the Year.
"1 Thing" definitely gave a boost to Amerie's music career, and ever since its release, the prestigious music industry nominations have kept on coming. Amerie earned nods for the upcoming Grammy Awards, for both Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Contemporary Album. "1 Thing" is also up for a People's Choice Award for Best Song in a Movie, as well as a Groovolt & Fashion Award for R&B Song Performance.
